lake trip

There are few ways more fun to break up a long and hot summer than a trip to the lake.
We've talked about going for a long time now and we finally did it! We rented a pontoon for 12, loaded up the fishing poles and we were off!
All right, so maybe it wasn't quite as simple that...I forgot to mention the hours of planning ahead, the trips to the store for supplies and food, the packing of towels, diapers, sunscreen, books, water, wipes and napkins, extra clothes, and cleaning out the van. The prodding and coaxing of unmotivated children and  their irritable parents (I'll blame the heat)...anyway, after ALL of that...then we were off!

We were happy to have Grandpa join us for part of the day.

The kids loved all the fishing even if they didn't catch much.

Picking up a few new fishing skills from a pro.

Kidus tried his hardest to fall off the boat, but, poor kid, his mean old mom just wouldn't let him.

The kids were just a little freaked out at the idea of swimming in a murky, green lake since they've spent most of their lives in a crystal- clear swimming pool. It took a little coaxing and me jumping in first to prove that there weren't any hungry man-eating catfish lurking nearby  before they were convinced to try it.

This was Biruk's reaction the first time he went into the water
but by the end of the day he didn't want to get out.

We'll definitely be going again!

What a fun idea! It is hard finding things to do that everyone enjoys when there is a big age difference between the oldest and the youngest, isn't it? When we find something, we feel like we hit the jackpot!
